About The Course

Date: November 9th Time: Start 14.00 - Finish 17.00 - (3h) Workshop by: Sophie Cagniart from Silent Wave Indigo During this introduction to Sashiko, founder of Silent Wave Indigo Sophie Cagniart will teach you about its history, from its original purpose in the Edo period to its increasing popularity today with the sustainable appeal of visible mending. It is a beginner's workshop, where you will go over the basics as to what types of fabrics and yarns are best suited for the work, how to use the materials to hand stitch a beautiful artwork. During this 3 hour workshop, you will learn the basics of the traditional Sashiko stitching, while creating denim patches that you will bring home with you. After choosing from a wide range of patterns, you will get started on the embroidery, Sophie will show you how to embroider several patterns on patches that you can then use as appliqué, to embellish or repair any existing garment of yours! You will leave the course with the tools you need to repair and strengthen fabric using different Sashiko patterns, knowing what materials to use to do so in a creative way. You will have learned the basic Sashiko stitches out of different patterns and will have the skill set to explore new ones on your own! Level : Suitable for complete beginners You don't need to prepare any materials for yourself, all the materials you will use and get to keep in this workshop will be provided, those include : 1 skein of Sashiko yarn 1 Sashiko needle 3 denim squares already marked Hand out instructions Any sort of small optional equipment will be provided like scissors, chalk or rulers. Just bring your enthusiastic self! *The workshop will be done in English. Cancellation Policy Once you've booked and payed for the workshop, you will receive a confirmation email and a reminder a week prior to the event. Due to the limitedamount of participants, we request that you cancel at least 3 days before the workshop is scheduled since we could use that time to give your spot to another interested person. If you respect this policy, you will get a refund for the course.
